For more than a hundred years, the Dohnavur Fellowship has been sustained by the sacrificial service of dedicated brothers and sisters—many of whom were once orphans themselves and grew to serve Christ through DF’s ministries. They cared for our children, taught in our schools, nursed in our hospital, and reached villages with the compassion of Jesus. Their quiet, faithful labour has shaped generations. Today, as they enter their later years, it is our sacred responsibility to care for them with the same love they once poured out.

In the earlier decades, the Fellowship was young, and the need for elder care was small. But today, nearly a hundred sisters are above the age of 65. Many still contribute actively; others now require continuous support, medical attention, and a safe environment. Yet, donor focus often remains on children alone—while the care of our elderly sisters, who made the children’s ministry possible, entails substantial and ongoing expenses.

Providing dignified care for these sisters is integral to the mission itself. It honours their lifelong dedication and becomes a living testimony of the Gospel—“in love serve one another.” It also strengthens the confidence of younger workers who see that the Fellowship faithfully stands with those who give their lives in service.

To meet these needs, DF offers dedicated facilities such as the newly furnished Vistara residence and the geriatric unit near the hospital. Here, our elderly sisters receive attentive nursing, medication management, regular health checks, fall-prevention measures, and the warmth of a Christ-centred community. This ministry not only ensures safety and comfort but also affirms their God-given dignity at every stage of life.
